BotGrid is a game by GreenRobot LLC, in your browser and as an iPhone and iPad app. You don't need an account to play. This page covers what the game keeps and who else is involved. GreenRobot's general privacy policy also applies.
Stored in your browser
The game keeps these in your browser's local storage, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings:
- your graphics, music and sound settings
- the number of rivals and the difficulty you last picked
- how many times the first-match tips have been shown, so they stop appearing once you know the game
- how many matches you've won, for the Victories leaderboard and the Veteran achievement
- the name the game made up for you for online matches
Sent to us
Nothing, unless you play online (see below). Matches run on your own device, and the game doesn't send your settings or results to GreenRobot. There are no BotGrid accounts.
Like any website, the server that delivers the game sees your IP address and basic browser details when you load it. They're used only to deliver the page and keep the site running, and the hosting provider may keep short-lived technical logs.
Game Center, in the iPhone and iPad app
If you're signed in to Apple's Game Center, the app sends your match scores and achievements to Game Center, where you, your Game Center friends and other players can see them on leaderboards. Game Center's friends lists and friend requests happen on Apple's own screens, and the game never receives or stores your friends list. Game Center is run by Apple, under Apple's privacy policy, and you can sign out of it in the Settings app at any time.
Online matches
When you play online, in your browser or in the app, the game connects to GreenRobot's BotGrid server. It finds you an opponent, or puts you in a private room with friends who have its code, and then passes the match's messages between the players' devices. One player's device runs the match for everyone.
- Your name. The other players see the name the game made up for you (like "Amber Gnawer 37"). In the iPhone and iPad app, if you're signed in to Game Center, they see your Game Center name instead.
- What you do in the match. Which bots you build and when you upgrade your Core go to the other players' devices through the server.
- Nothing is kept. The server holds your name, the room code and the match's messages only while the match runs, and forgets them when it ends. It keeps no record of who played or how they did.
- Your IP address. The server sees it while you're connected, like any website, and uses it only to stop any one address from overloading the server or guessing room codes. It keeps no log of addresses.
In the app, you can also invite friends through Game Center, Apple's own matchmaking. Those matches go through Apple's Game Center servers instead of ours, and the players see each other's Game Center names.
Other companies
Apart from Game Center in the app, none. The game's code, fonts and images all come from this site or the app itself. It has no advertising, analytics or tracking, and this page will be updated before any are added.
Children
BotGrid is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
